2. Requirements

Before starting an installation, in-advance planning is recommended. Please refer to the Promptar Server Setup Guide for that.

2.1. General

Promptar DCC runs on both Linux and Windows operating systems. The base technical requirements are:

Linux Windows

Operating System

RHEL 5 or later

Windows Server 2003 SP2 or later

Available RAM

32 MB

32 MB

Disk Space

50 MB

50 MB

  • Promptar is 32 bit software. If you’re targeting 64 bit Linux, see 64 Bit Linux Requirements, below.
  • Promptar DCC is packaged in RPM format for Linux installation and is tested and supported on RHEL or equivalent distributions, like CentOS. If you so require, Promptar is known to successfully run on top of distributions such as Debian or Ubuntu. In those cases, a special support agreement may be delivered.
  • RAM and disk space requirements may grow depending on the complexity of the installation and on the implemented logging policies. The specified requirements are adequate for typical installations.

64 Bit Linux Requirements

To ensure Promptar DCC runs on 64 bit Linux systems, 32 bit compatibility packages need to be installed. Before proceeding, ensure your system is fully up to date by running "yum update" or equivalent. Then:

For 64 bit RHEL 5, install 32 bit zlib and its dependencies by running:

# yum install zlib.i386

For 64 bit RHEL 6 or 7, install 32 bit zlib and its dependencies by running:

# yum install zlib.i686

2.2. Connector Specific

In addition to the requirements listed above, Promptar DCC requires an available TCP port to listen for Desktop Client connections.

For a streamlined user experience, it is recommended that the default TCP port 35730 is used. If a different port is used, Desktop Clients can be configured to connect to non-default TCP port by specifying a string like "<hostname>:<port>" for the server, when logging in.

You may need to adjust any local or remote firewall rules and networking equipment to support the incoming connections.
